remembering iv

Ivanna Matilla passed away on 27 May 2023.

To anyone who joined Beyond the Bunker when it was just Moon, you'll understand how Ivanna changed everything for the better. Her colouring brought the artwork to life in a way that I could never have imagined. When she agreed to help 'two likely lads from London' I had no idea that I was teaming up with someone who would become one of my very best friends.

Iv was a world class colourist. An artist in her own right. Her positivity, love and boundless patience kept Moon (and me) going when things were their hardest. Her infectious enthusiasm and kind nature drove the joy of completing page after page. Our working relationship became seamless. Long nights of discussing the right shade of this and how light would bounce off that became a gleeful excitement to see what would come back. And it was always glorious.

She was an English teacher throughout the time I knew her and would proudly talk about her job. Her dedication to it was phenomenal.

Based in Argentina but a devout anglophile, Iv arrived in England on a tour of Europe with her husband Dario and a week was had touring England as best (and quick as) we could. Iv loved being able to see an english forest, a ruined castle and Jane Austen's house.

It's often said that someone goes too soon but Iv went far, far too soon.  The world deserved more of Iv and she deserved to be recognised for her incredible work. I will never forget her and her work will always live on in Moon, which to me makes it more valuable as a piece of art than it could considered in it's own right.

Below is a link to Iv's instagram page (NSFW) and a link to donate to Breast Cancer Research. Plus a small gallery of some of her incredible work.
